OBJECTIVE: To map the scientific evidence on the effects of resistance training on the health and quality of life of women aged 45 to 64.
METHOD: This is an Integrative Literature Review conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, the search for scientific production was carried out through the digital platforms PubMed and SciELO and the time frame chosen was five years (2020 to 2025). The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 (RoB 2.0) tool.
RESULTS: Seven scientific studies were included, organized into two categories: Resistance Training and Breast Cancer and Resistance Training and Menopause. Together, the articles complement each other in concluding that resistance training is an effective intervention to improve the general health and quality of life of women aged 45 to 64, especially those facing symptoms of menopause or undergoing treatment/recovery from breast cancer. Although it does not act directly on cancer cells, exercise contributes to the reduction of physical and emotional suffering, improves vasomotor symptoms, strengthens muscles, reduces cardiovascular risk, and increases self-esteem.
CONCLUSION: This reinforces the importance of including resistance training in the routine of mature women, as a strategy for promoting health and well-being throughout aging. The review also highlights a gap in studies with larger samples and long-term follow-up specifically targeting this age group, underscoring the need for further research on the topic.
