Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe and analyze how footvolley practitioners in Taquari, Rio Grande do Sul, experience the sport as a leisure activity, focusing on their motivations, the meanings they attribute to it, the formation of social relationships, and its impact on their financial and family dynamics—all inspired by my experiences as an instructor and player.
METHODS: To conduct the research, semi-structured interviews were carried out with four practitioners selected based on their level of experience in footvolley and their gender. Their responses were analyzed through thematic categorization.
RESULTS: The results indicate that the practitioners were strongly influenced by the sport’s popularity in the city, and it was found that technical development, competition, and social interactions are key factors in maintaining their engagement with the sport.
CONCLUSION: We conclude that footvolley goes beyond physical activity, providing a sense of belonging, fostering friendships, and serving as an outlet for coping with everyday stress
