Abstract

This article aims to analyze how the process of constructing meanings of the meme was x. Thus, specifically, this work emphasizes the identification and description of knowledge and strategies such as recategorization and intertextuality as resources for the construction of meaning. As theoretical assumptions, studies on intertextuality (Koch; Elias, 2007; Cavalcante, 2014; Koch; Bentes; Cavalcante, 2008), and studies on recategorization (Lima S., 2003 and 2009; Lima; Cavalcante, 2015) were used. For the research, a set of three memes with similar positions (Shifman, 2013) were selected, texts that circulated in Brazil in the year 2025 on the social network X. From our study we highlight that, in the context of intertextuality, the strategy of détournement (Grésillon; Maingueneau, 1984) stands out as an essential element in the production of meaning in memes. We also observed that recategorization without mention of referential expression plays a crucial role in the construction of meaning of memes, by exploring implied elements that can only be recovered cognitively.
