Author Guidelines

NeoKrísis – Journal of Political and Legal Theories (eISSN 3086-7126) accepts submissions of original, unpublished manuscripts that comply with its editorial scope and the presentation standards established for publication.

NeoKrísis does not charge fees for submission, evaluation, editorial processing, publication, or access to published works. No payment is required from authors at any stage of the editorial process.

Submissions may be made in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, or French, provided that the manuscript fully complies with the journal’s editorial guidelines. All manuscripts must include a title, abstract, and keywords in the original language of the work and in English. When the manuscript is written in a language other than Portuguese, authors are also encouraged to provide the title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese in order to increase its circulation among Brazilian and Latin American readers.

All submissions will initially be assessed by the Editorial Committee, which will verify their suitability for the journal’s focus and scope, authorship requirements, formal submission guidelines, use of the appropriate template, and minimum standards of academic quality. Manuscripts deemed suitable at this preliminary stage will be submitted to peer review under a double-blind system.

Before making a submission, authors must ensure that the manuscript is properly structured; that the research problem, objectives, methodology, and arguments are clearly presented; and that the title, abstract, and keywords accurately reflect the content of the work.

Authors are responsible for the originality of the work, the proper acknowledgment of all sources used, obtaining permission to use images, documents, tables, graphs, or other third-party materials when necessary, and complying with the ethical requirements applicable to the research.

Authors are responsible for the grammatical, linguistic, and stylistic accuracy of the manuscript. In the case of texts submitted in a language other than Portuguese, the Editorial Committee may require specialized language editing before publication.

All authors and co-authors listed in the submission must have made a substantive contribution to the conception, development, writing, or critical revision of the work. Purely formal co-authorship is not permitted. The attribution of authorship and co-authorship must comply with the principles of intellectual responsibility, academic integrity, and editorial transparency adopted by NeoKrísis.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the requirements below. By proceeding, the person responsible for the submission confirms that:

  • The submission complies with the focus and scope of NeoKrísis, the requirements of the selected section, and the Author Guidelines. The manuscript has been prepared using the appropriate template and submitted as an editable .docx file.
  • The work is original and unpublished and is not currently under consideration by another journal. All sources have been properly acknowledged, and the manuscript contains no plagiarism or improper appropriation of texts, ideas, data, or images.
  • All persons listed as authors or co-authors have made a substantive contribution to the work, approved its final version, and consented to its submission. Everyone who meets the authorship criteria has been duly included.
  • When blind review applies, all information that could reveal the authors’ identities has been removed from the manuscript and the file properties.
  • The metadata have been entered completely and accurately, including the authors’ names and order, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID identifiers, when available. The title, abstract, and keywords have been provided in the original language of the manuscript and in English, when required by the selected section.
  • The correspondence between in-text citations and the reference list has been checked. All references have been reviewed for accuracy and completeness, and a DOI or URL has been included whenever available.
  • All graphic and tabular elements—including tables, charts, graphs, figures, and images—have been cited in the text, numbered, titled, and accompanied by source information. When necessary, permission has been obtained to publish photographs, datasets, and other third-party materials.
  • The research complies with all applicable ethical and legal principles. When required, ethics committee approval, consent forms, and any other necessary authorizations have been obtained and reported.
  • Funding sources, potential conflicts of interest, and any use of generative artificial intelligence tools have been disclosed, when applicable, in accordance with the journal’s guidelines.

"Articles" Section

"Essays" Section

NeoKrísis (eISSN 3086-7126) welcomes submissions of unpublished and original essays that comply with its editorial scope and the manuscript preparation guidelines established by the journal. An essay does not require the same rigid methodological structure as a scientific article, but it must demonstrate argumentative consistency, theoretical depth, appropriate bibliographical grounding, and a relevant interpretative contribution.

When an essay is written in a language other than Portuguese, authors are also encouraged to provide the title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese in order to broaden its circulation among Brazilian and Latin American readers.

"First Steps" Section

The “First Steps” section of NeoKrísis (eISSN 3086-7126) is intended for the publication of unpublished and original academic essays produced by undergraduate students, recent graduates, and master’s students, in accordance with the journal’s editorial scope and the manuscript preparation guidelines established by the journal.

The section has a formative purpose and seeks to encourage researchers in training to engage in academic writing by providing a qualified venue for the publication of critical, theoretical, conceptual, or interpretative reflections in the fields of Philosophy, Political Theory, Legal Theory, and related areas.

Essays submitted to the “First Steps” section must use the template intended for NeoKrísis essays and comply, where applicable, with the same formal, ethical, and editorial standards governing this type of text.

Submissions may be made in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, or French, provided that the manuscript fully complies with the journal’s editorial guidelines. All manuscripts must include the title, abstract, and keywords in the original language of the work and in English. “Reviews” Section

Submissions may be made in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, or French, provided that the manuscript fully complies with the journal’s editorial guidelines. “Translations” Section

NeoKrísis (eISSN 3086-7126) publishes Portuguese-language translations of philosophical, legal, political, and scholarly texts of recognised significance that are compatible with its editorial scope. The section aims to broaden the Brazilian academic community’s access to sources, studies, and documents not yet available in Portuguese or whose existing translation is scarce, incomplete, outdated, or warrants a new critical approach.

Complete translations may be submitted or, where intellectually and legally justified, translations of self-contained parts of:

  1. Scholarly articles and essays;

  2. Chapters, sections, or excerpts from works;

  3. Lectures, letters, manuscripts, historical documents, and classical texts;

  4. Other relevant materials that are unpublished or have limited circulation in Brazil.

Translations will not be accepted if they lack demonstrated scholarly relevance, have been produced without direct consultation of the text in its original language, have been prepared predominantly using machine translation, or have been submitted without the documentation required to verify the source and publication rights.

“Interviews” Section

NeoKrísis (eISSN 3086-7126) may publish interviews with researchers, professors, intellectuals, legal scholars, philosophers, academic leaders, or prominent figures whose work and career are relevant to the journal’s areas of interest.

The journal NeoKrísis welcomes submissions of unpublished and original interviews that comply with its editorial scope and the manuscript preparation guidelines established by the journal. Submissions may be made in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, or French, provided that the manuscript fully complies with the journal’s editorial guidelines. All manuscripts must include the title and keywords in the original language of the work and in English. When a submission is written in a language other than Portuguese, authors are also encouraged to provide the title and keywords in Portuguese in order to broaden its circulation among Brazilian and Latin American readers.

Interviews must contribute to academic debate and avoid being merely informational, promotional, or journalistic in nature.

“Thematic Dossiers” Section

The Dossiers section of NeoKrísis (eISSN 3086-7126) is intended for the publication of coordinated collections of unpublished and original works (Articles or Essays) devoted to the in-depth examination of specific topics related to the journal’s editorial scope.

Thematic Dossiers must promote relevant and current debates in the fields of Political Theories and/or Legal Theories, encompassing research in Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, Theory of the State, Democracy, Human Rights, Justice, Ethics, Constitutionalism, Peace, War, Sovereignty, Institutions, and related topics.

The section seeks to foster dialogue among different theoretical, methodological, institutional, and geographical perspectives, contributing to the consolidation of research networks and the high-quality circulation of scholarly knowledge.

Dossiê: As mulheres da Igreja

The dossier The Women of the Church is intended for the publication of essays devoted to the lives, work, and thought of women who have contributed to shaping the history of the Church and forming its spiritual, intellectual, cultural, and social tradition. Studies are welcomed on biblical figures, saints, women religious, mystics, theologians, missionaries, educators, laywomen, and other women whose presence has shaped ecclesial experience throughout the centuries.

The dossier is not limited to the great figures of the past but is also open to reflections on contemporary women, including those who are still living and continue to contribute to the renewal of the Church and its work in the world. Its purpose is to recognise, value, and make more visible the different ways in which women have participated and continue to participate in the life of the Church, highlighting the originality of their experiences, ideas, works, and testimonies.
