Abstract

In Merleau-Ponty's thinking, the body does not move exclusively in space, but, as historical and part of a specific temporality, that is, affecting and being affected, the body enhances a spatial adherence to the world that enables motor development and, in turn, behavior and experience. Therefore, in his philosophy, historicity and time are crucial for the formation of another paradigm which task is to overcome intellectualism and idealism at once. Given this, we will see how for Merleau-Ponty there are types of historicity that help us in a non-objectivist or merely subjectivist understanding of historical reality. To do so, we will analyze history and historicity through the ideas of time and meaning in the French philosopher's thought.

Keywords: Existence; History; Historicity; Sense; Time.
