Abstract

Assistive Technology (AT) has fostered an indispensable social commitment in today's world, where its use and mastery have provided a better quality of life for individuals, especially those with disabilities and physical, sensory, or cognitive limitations. Thus, this study aims to analyze the teaching knowledge of stricto sensu graduate students in the field of Education about AT, based on discussions developed in a course focused on this theme. This is a qualitative and descriptive research study, with data collection carried out through class notes and the application of a questionnaire to eight graduate students. The results point to stricto sensu graduate students having broader knowledge of the fundamental concepts of Assistive Technology, its interdisciplinary nature, and its target audience. This knowledge is essential, as it can contribute to promoting autonomy, accessibility, and social inclusion. Conceptual gaps were also identified, revealing a confused view of what constitutes AT, which may limit the effectiveness of inclusive teaching practices. There were also pointed out more specific gaps in continuing education and the need for public policies that guarantee infrastructure, funding, and technical support for the proper implementation of AT in educational institutions. Thus, studies on teaching knowledge at different levels are important and necessary, as they help to understand the training and gaps in teachers' knowledge on various topics.
