Abstract

This paper aims to reflect about possibilities of hybrid research on the international border in Paraná state, Brazil, emphasizing the hybridization of Geography with other sciences and fields of knowledge, through Political Ecology, and the hybridization of geographical approaches, through the lens of Environmental Geography. Based on the author's experiences and reflections, the text presents some principals of Political Ecology and Environmental Geography, followed by a discussion of some research possibilities using these approaches along the international border in Paraná. To this end, approaches to the occupation process of this border region and the social appropriation and use of nature, considering their causes and consequences, provide scope for various types of research and studies related to environmental degradation, environmental conservation, injustices, and (socio)environmental conflicts. The text seeks to consider some specific peculiarities of this border, such as the issue of illegal pesticides, the existence of the Iguaçu and Ilha Grande National Parks, and the Itaipu binational hydroelectric power plant.
