THE IMPORTANCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND TOURISM VALUATION IN THE RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY OF SANTO ANTÔNIO DE LEVERGER - MT

Abstract: Environmental education plays a significant role in the conservation of natural resources in a particular region. This study aimed to identify tourist spots located in the headquarters of the municipality of Santo Antônio de Leverger - MT and its surroundings, and evaluate the environmental conditions of these spots. To achieve the proposed objectives, the identification and assessment of the environmental conditions of the main tourist spots located in the headquarters and its vicinity in the municipality were carried out. When evaluating the environmental conditions of the three identified tourist spots (Morro de Santo Antônio, Praia da Vereda, and Praia Bar), numerous environmental aspects and impacts were found, such as improper disposal of solid waste, graffiti practices, and inadequate effluent discharge, leading to soil pollution, water pollution, deterioration of the aesthetic of the site, among other negative consequences for the environment and local tourism. These impacts underscore the need to incorporate environmental education in this community, as environmental education is one of the most effective tools for raising awareness about environmental conservation.
