Abstract

The aim of this study was to understand the process of land occupations in the Northeast of Minas Gerais, especially between the years 1985 and 1997, identifying key actors, their interests, perspectives and strategies, as well as mediation actions, representation and institutional interaction . Based on methodological features of oral history and micro-history, we see how the mobilizations emerged from the alliance between southerners MST activists, trade unions and religious who worked in the region. The mobilizations suffered concussions by differences in the intensity of the fighting and the activities of groups opposed to the mobilizations. We realize how these mobilizations were reinvigorated in the 1990s by the changes in the meanings of rural workers.
