Abstract

Time is a major theme for phenomenology. The current article goes back to some of the theoretical clashes between the first theories elaborated by Husserl and Brentano on this theme. It is curious to note that Husserl also encountered many of the epistemic problems faced by the Brentano. However, Husserl was not committed to improving Brentanian theory, since the author did not want to continue as a member of his school. As we will see, Husserl elaborated from his initial writings on phenomenological temporality and time-consciousness, something totally different from what was proposed by Brentano's first theory of time.
