O artigo tem por tema a decisão pela maternidade segundo uma interpretação fenomenológico existencial. Questiona se a decisão de mulheres ou casais por ter filhos é promovida por uma posição própria em face dos sentidos da existência ou se ocorrem mediadas por uma diretriz impessoal. O enfoque é o de uma psicologia fenomenológico-existencial, como o fornecido pela filosofia heideggeriana. Julgamos poder sustentar que é significativa a recorrência de escolhas que transigem com demandas estranhas ao sentido de sua existência, como as exigências familiares e as pressões sociais.
