Abstract

The theme of this study is the potential to form of a localized agrifood production system (SIAL), autonomous and with interfaces with global networks, such development strategy of the Vale do Caí region (RS). This includes the taking advantage of local potential and market opportunities and the participation of local actors and of Nation State in the formulation and management of public policies. The objective of the study was to analyze the dynamic potential of some local agrifood productive activities for territorial development of the region. Were used qualitative information of the agrifoods products markets potential and of the regional productive structure. To measure the degree of concentration of these activities in the region was used Location Quotient (QL), based on the agricultural gross income and formal employment profile. The activities with the highest potential for local expansion were considered the embryo of an Agrifood System Located (SIAL) in the region.
