Abstract

This article aims to analyze the evolution of the informal sector of labor in Paraná State – Brazil – between the 1992 – 2005, highlighting its spatial dimensions, sectoral and demographical. The Paraná State was divided in two regions: Metropolitan (MR) and Non-Metropolitan (NMR). It was evaluated the informality degree (ID) behavior by sector and contribution of sector structural to the GI´s variation. The informal economy in Brazil reduced softly between 1992 and 2005, but in Paraná State was stronger the reduction. In the RNM, the ID reduced consistently, but the industrial sector showed ID´s growth , however, it was widely compensated by the agricultural sector, that does not reduced strongly the ID, but the participation in the total of occupations, caused by the closed of  occupations. In MR, the ID showed slow reduction. The construction sector had headway in the informality and the others sectors do not showed variation, except the services sector, that showed ID’s reduction. In Paraná State, GI reduced because the informality reduction in agricultural sector and also because structural changes. In Paraná State the participation of women in informality grew while the participation of men stabilized, and showed that the education level and age increased in the informality as in formality.
