Abstract

The objective is to analyze and reflect on the tobacco chain, mainly in the south, with the indirect influence of the Framework Convention and the policy of diversification of the areas planted with tobacco. The analysis is based on understanding the context of the municipality of Arroio do Tigre/RS, the main producer of tobacco Burley type, external influences on local production. The paper uses analytic frameworks, documents and secondary data for discussion and implication of activity in local and national context. The study allowed to distinguish different perceptions around the activity and its economic importance to farmers in the region. Finally, the interventions of the Framework Convention and the state over the sale and consumption of tobacco are directly affecting the productive activity.
