Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the institutions that could explain the historical poverty verified in microrregion Pitanga (PR). The method used was a literature search to define a theoretical and methodological framework based on the contributions of the institutional economist Douglass North and subsequently to analyze the peculiarities of development of this region. The main conclusions suggest the existence of a matrix (macro and micro) that reproduces the institutional time and maintains these municipalities with low development indicators throughout history.
