Abstract

Our objective is to use the bark Georges Didi-Huberman teared from the birch trees when he visited Auschwitz-Birkenau as a metaphor for Lili Jaffe’s memories, a survivor of the concentration camps, by using her diary and, mainly by her daughter’s, Noemi Jaffe, comments. The bark has two sides, one closer to the tree that keeps a rosy color and represents an open wound, and the other one, which can be used to be written on and represents the need of some survivors to tell what happened to them.
