Abstract

This study regards two objectives: the first is to recognize the literacy concept that appears in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and compares it with the bias of the New Studies of Literacy, based on Street (1989, 2003) Barton and Hamilton (2012) and Heath (1989), furthermore the critical literacy perspective, based on Giroux (2011) and Freire (2006, 2011). Our second purpose is to check the PISA state-of-the-art, regarding its international relevance, in order to realize what has been researched and the gaps that may still be filled in the studies that PISA is the object of research.
