Abstract

This article focuses on the aesthetic ideals of the French language in texts addressing translation of scholars and translators of the 17th and 18th centuries, when the ideal of man and of language were closely linked, resulting both in the imaginary of French language as guided by clarity, accuracy, discernment, simplicity, balance, rationality and perfection, and the idealizations of translating according to the requirements of Classical Translation and Ethnocentric T ranslation.
