Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present and preliminarily discuss the critical dimension of a translation project of the novella Der Schimmelreiter (1888), by the German writer and poet Theodor Storm, which resulted into two different translations: A Assombrosa História do Homem do Cavalo Branco (STORM, 2006a) and O Centauro Bronco (STORM, 2006b). Regarding the translational practice as a practice that builds up a relation to the Other , and as a critical undertaking, the project
intended to scrutinize two critical possibilities of translating Storm’s work: the first one, that focuses specially on the set of relations to the German work and context, although regarding also the Brazilian
context of reception; and the second one, that focuses specially on the set of relations to the Brazilian context of reception, although regarding also the set of relations to the German work and context.
