Abstract

Objective: To identify the interface between the process of work in the Central Sterile materials (CSM) and its relationship with the Hospital Infection Control (IH). Methods: This is a narrative review of the literature. The databases used were: Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online); LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences); BDENF (Nursing Database). In addition, there was a survey study available in "Google Scholar". They were searched for articles published between the years 2003 to 2013, in Portuguese and versassem closely with the central theme of this study. Results: From the Full reading and analytical and reflective 10 studies, built up the following themes: The activities of the nursing team in the CSM; The potential for infection transmission according to the classification of the articles and the importance of CSM in the prevention and control of IH. Conclusions: It is perceived that all units of the hospital has its share of contribution to the control of IH. Thus, the activities of the active nursing staff at CSM have expressive charge of involvement in infection rates because the article processing is a determining factor for this.
