Abstract

Aim: Identify the knowledge that caregivers of bedridden elderly have about pressures injuries. Materials and Methods: Qualitative and descriptive study, which was attended by 15 caregivers. Data collection took place between the months of May and June 2013, and the responses were analyzed by the technique of Content Analysis. Results: The average age of respondents was 51 years and the average time devoted to care with patient it was 14 hours. From the speeches, originate from three thematic units: the caregiver and pressure injuries – knowledge and practices; difficulties experienced in the caution; professional support. Conclusions: Caregivers have a baggage of knowledge from his experience with the care and information already acquired, either empirically or through the guidance given by the health team. Still, it was noticed that the knowledge is limited.
