ATTITUDES THAT EVIDENCE THE CULTURE OF PATIENT SAFETY IN AN CARDIOVASCULAR INSTITUTION

Abstract

Aim: Quantitative study survey that aimed to identify the attitudes of safety  that show the safety culture of nursing team of institution cardiovascular. Methods: Study conducted in the emergency departments, inpatient units and coronary care unit of institution’s cardiovascular Florianopolis, SC, Brazil. We applied the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) to a population of 75 nurses. For analysis we used descriptive and inferential  statistics with emphasis on Student’s t test and U test Mann-Whitney. Results: There is some similarity between the means of professional nurses and nursing technicians in the dimensions of teamwork climate, job satisfaction, perceptions of management and working conditions. In the security dimension of climate nursing technicians have higher average in size and recognition of stress nurses had higher average scores. The size was more positive recognition of the stress (77,6 – 65,1), the size was more negative working conditions (35,6 – 36,1). Conclusions: The assessment of patient safety culture in the institution cardiovascular study shows us haw fragile is this culture in all dimensions studied and the need for involvement of the entire multidisciplinary team in all levels.
