Abstract

Teachers who have had or even have experience in directing research projects involving students can not deny the importance that this type of activity assumes in the basic and vocational training of students, in general, and particularly in the area of computer science. From the moment an undergraduate scientific project is conceived, along with the student, until the expected results of the survey, the entire trajectory of a student brings benefits to both their training and their performance in the future labor market. With the project xLupa, a research development of free software, which aims to implement a screen magnifier for low vision students, the advances attained with the academic staff of the project are visible. Discussing the evolution of this research is the purpose of this article. The approach is a mix that includes not only issues related to the process, but also issues involving technical aspects as well as characteristics of the tool, allowing readers to locate themselves in relation to the subject matter.
