Abstract

In Brazil, there is not a policy of systematic training for pediatricians and health professionals who work in health centers, therefore the actions of continuing education have been necessary. This paper aims to describe the development of four editions of the distance learning course on the “Ten Steps of Dietary Health for Children under two years old”. Furthermore, we report some characteristics of the participants regarding to the percentage of drop out rates and their occupations. Among the professionals, those who had the highest percentages of participation were the nursing technicians, students/trainees and nurses. The dropout rates were higher among doctors, followed by nurse technicians. We hope to improve the forms of communication and evaluation of the course through variables which affect the results of training in order to change the dropout rates and future practices’ outcome. Thus we intend to reach a model that can be reproduced and available to all regions of Porto Alegre city and, in the future, to other regions in Brazil.
