Abstract

The article intends to analyze the messianism as form of political
and social resistance permeated by mystic aspects inherited from a long
historical time. This study reflects about the peasant religiosity that persists
in the present time. The Romaria da Terra, a mystic manifestation that
appeared in Brazil during the military government (1964-1985) is considered
a messianic peasant celebration which tries to bring about lost territories
and, at same time, it shows new places and the redemption for the poor and
oppressed persons.
