Abstract

The article is a Systematic Literature Review (RS) about research on economic complexity with developmental bias. We hope to be able to contribute to future research by providing an illuminated access path to relevant secondary content on what has been published in economic complexity analyses, specifically those that addressed economic development, productive structures, and international trade networks – three categories of analysis. From the initial search for the string Economic Complexity in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases, a protocol of actions for filtering, cutting, and refining the search was applied. The objective was to direct RS towards research that revealed developmental signs and characteristics exclusively from economic complexity research itself. To this end, the authors used specific search strategies by proposing a set of theoretical terms separated from the three categories of analysis. Basing part of the Article Selection Criteria on these theoretical terms, this SR showed its differentiation and purpose, without leaving aside methodological rigor. The search results returned 204 articles, of which 85 were selected, divided, and classified as low, high, and very high relevant to the purpose of the research. Finally, 18 articles were recommended.

PhD in Education from the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (FAED/UFMS). Permanent Professor of the Postgraduate Programs in Administration and Public Administration at the School of Administration and Business at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (ESAN/UFMS). He has research experience in the areas of Epistemology in Organizational Studies, Critical Organization Theory, Associated Work, Solidarity Economy and Self-Management.

Leandro Carlos Alves Bezerra, Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS)

Master in Administration from the School of Administration and Business of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (ESAN/UFMS). He has experience in research in the areas of Organization Theory, Sustainability and Field Sociology.
