Abstract

The aim of this article is to demonstrate, through a text Machado de Assis and the thought of Frantz Fanon on the psychopathology of black, as if performing the fragmentation of the colonized front of the ideological positions of the colonizer. Based on the concepts of race and racism, we see the othering of the subject dominated a process that culminates in the loss of identity for the individual confronted with a negative image of himself. The application of the thought of Fanon to Machado text reveals the colonizer's strategies to keep the colonized linked to the ideals of subservience since colonization triggers the identity annihilation and strengthening the ideology of dominating even by those who, in theory, would be free from its moorings. This fact is evidenced in the work of Machado by Prudencio character and the attitudes of the main character, Brás Cubas.
