The centaur in the garden: the jewish issue expresses in the work of Moacyr Scliar through the body of the mythological figure
Keywords:
Diaspora, otherness, judaism.Abstract
The article aims to analyze the book The centaur in the garden, by Moacyr Scliar, relating it to the Jewish issue. To achieve this proposal we turn to the work Bodenlos, by Flusser, and the Todorov's book O Homem Desenraizado. The protagonist from the Scliar's novel, as shown in the beginning of the plot, born with a feature that sets it apart from the other characters: it is a centaur, a mythological being half man, half horse. The hybrid condition of the character can be interpreted as a metaphor for the situation of the Jewish immigrant identity, as well as their descendants, who according to the diaspora and contact in exile with other cultures, acquire a plural identity.
