Childhood and History: the child in modernity and contemporaneity
Keywords:
History, Childhood, Education.Abstract
This text brings a discussion about the childhood explaining how the child seen was in History characterizing the appearance of the childhood, through the postulates of scholars as Philippe Ariès (1914-1984) and Neil Postman (1931/2003), to its current disappearance, according to this author. The aim in the study is to show that the childhood is a history construction that emerged in the XVII century, consolidating after the Modern Age until the XIX century and is disappearing in the contemporaneity. Thus, the study rescues the historic context to a better comprehension of the childhood in each period, in the previous mention author’s view, through the creator of the kindergarten Friedrich Froebel (1782/1852), when the conception of childhood consolidated is in the XIX century. The bibliography review with a critic focus used was as a methodology. Postman (1999) doesn’t give any solutions to the childhood disappearing problem in the contemporaneity, although he does an interesting study at reasons which the childhood are being repressed, reasons that are presented and discussed during this study.Downloads
