Abstract

This essay aims to discuss the limits and the challenges of contemporary fiction regarding the use of metanlinguistics as a literary discursive approach. Ian McEwan wrote a novel which discusses the concept of literature as the interpretation of the world when building up a constellation of texts (Walter Benjamin’s concept) to defend the idea of a literary identity in English Literature. This "identity" would be a way of preserving fiction as a reflection on the world.
