FOR AN STUDY OF THE REALISM IN PROUST´S NOVEL IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME
Keywords:
Literatura e história, Marcel Proust, Caso Dreyfus.Abstract
This article aims to discuss the role of the Dreyfus affair in the composition of Proust´s novel, In search of lost time, through a reconstitution of the event impact on the characters. As the narrator says, the affair represents "a deep and unexpected historical change" and leads to an inversion of society´s customs: "everything Jewish, even the elegant lady herself, went down, and various obscure nationalists rose to take its place". Considering that the political experience of the Affair determines the characters construction, and even the narrator´s, we try to demonstrate the importance of this historical event to Proust´s novel.
