THE AFRO-BRAZILIANS’ REPRESENTATION IN THE PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE SCHOOL TEXTBOOK

The aim of this article is to consider the social representation of the Afro-Brazilians in the Portuguese language school textbook. After analyzing three collections of textbooks, focusing on texts and pictures, we noticed that the Afro-Brazilians are represented in this learning material. However, the consideration of a fictional Afro-Brazilian, constructed by the social discourse, like characters of literature books for children or of the folklore, is what really predominates in these textbooks.
