Although the title reference of this article is to the song “Cap. 4, Vers. 3”, from the album-disc Sobrevivendo no Inferno (1997/2018), the track from the album Nada Como Um Dia Além O Outros Dia (2002): Jesus Chorou, a song by the group Racionais Mc's, becomes the central object of the reflections of this paper. In Brazil, rap appears as a popular manifestation of the periphery, indirectly linked to the black movement, as well as Hip Hop, carried a racist social stigma for a long time, being labeled as “thug music”. However it is the target of prejudice, both rap and the group Racionais Mc's have gained recognition and boast a podium of representation and strength. In this sense, the purpose of this work is to offer a study focused on the lyrics of the song together with its sound and performance aspects, in order to verify the meanings that the song expresses considering: fictional elements in the lyrics, the voices, the performance and the social context. This paper is based on studies by Zumthor (1993), Fernandes (2012), Finnegann (2008) and Wisnik (2019), in addition to considerations on marginalized masculinities, from Emicida (2020), JJ Bola (2020) and Oliveira (2018), in order to discuss the issues surrounding the expressions of masculinity inherent to violence and resistance portrayed in the lyrics of the song, the result is the unfolding of the intonation of the voice in contemporary literature.
