Keywords:

In search for restoring Rio Grande do Sul’s Modernist Movement, this article presents a study on Ernani Fornari’s poem "O Trem da Serra", focusing on its historical and social aspects. Ernani Fornari was an influent personality in the Modernism in Rio Grande do Sul. Through "Trem da Serra" - a colonial poem from the Italian region – he expressed some of the most decisive aspects of Modernist doctrine, incorporating local language, dialoguing with other arts, accepting the speed of changes and presenting a unique view over the landscape and history that are part of Rio Grande do Sul’s mountain range.
