Abstract

This study aims to introduce systematically the relationship between
psychology and literature. For this, we present a general way the main theoretical
approaches of psychology and its possibilities of dialogue with the literature. There are
previous studies, in both psychology and in comparative literature, showing this possibility
of dialogue. However, there are few studies published. Based on these publications, we
highlight five major psychological approaches: psychoanalysis, from the ideas of Sigmund
Freud, analytical psychology, Carl Jung, the psychology of Gestalt; the social psychology
social-historical, Marxist-oriented dialectic, whose main theoretical is Lev Vygotsky and
cognitive approach, based on theoretical assumptions of authors such as Howard Gardner
and Jonathan Potter. We can observe, so clear, epistemological and ontological differences
in psychological approaches described in this paper. However, considering these
differences, it is observed in all these initiatives, understanding and systematic dialogue with
the literature, factoring in understanding the processes of creation and reception of the
work of literary art, as well as the significance of its content and its form.
