Abstract

Images of Prometheus – the mythological figure who led the light of the gods to men, and so was severely punished by Zeus, having his liver incessantly eaten by a vulture – must to be read exactly in this way: as images. This implicates thinking the events in which Prometheus appears by the opening that characterizes images in general, but incisively the Prometheus himself: not only through the appearance, through what gives itself, shinning, in promise, but also by apparition of traces that operates like symptoms of the body image dissolving – by what rips the image in the flesh and exposes it. In this sense, the poems of León Felipe, Castro Alves and Murilo Mendes, working the image of Prometheus, open for reading.
