Abstract

This essay intends to analyze the short story “Sorôco, sua mãe, sua filha”, by João Guimarães Rosa, included in his book Primeiras Estórias, through the character’s path towards madness. It is planned to evidence his trajectory, branded by the agony, ending in a fragmentation process, conducting him to the recognition of the Other. From this, it is showed how the thematic seen inserts Rosa’s production into the universal, without leaving the particular.
