ENVIRONMENTAL PERCEPTION AS A KEY ROLE IN CONDUCTING RESEARCH IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

One of the ways to work with Environmental Education in schools is throughresearch. The aim of this project was to register the Environmental Perception of students at
school Municipal Santa Catarina, Porto Limão, Cáceres-MT. Twenty six (26) students
attending elementary and high school those involved in it. A semi-structured interview was
done with the students. The results showed that as for the students 7,7% of those involved
could not find a definition for environment. Other 23,1% misunderstood environmental
actions with concept, 30,8% of the informers affirmed that environment is defined as
everything that surrounds us. Other 3,8% considered that environment is constituted by alive
beings. For 34,6%, environment is synonymous of natural ambient. Regarding the man's
presence as environment, it was verified that 88,5% of the interviewees consider themselves a
part of it, while 3,8% of the interviewees said they are not part of the environment, being it the place of the animals. Other 7,7% were uncertain of their presence in it. When they were
asked about how to conserve the environment, the proposals appeared in the following order:
not polluting certain areas like school, back yards, roads and river; saying not to burnings and
deforestations; conserving the local animals; conserving the soil. To work the Environmental
Education is important because it contributes to the men's perception of being part of the
environment and it emphasizes their expectations and their greatest concerns about it.
