We report a research about beliefs and attitudes based on the notion that a person has about languages under evaluation. Therefore, and starting from an analysis of issues arising within the “Projeto de Pesquisa Crenças e Atitudes Linguísticas: um estudo da relação do português com línguas em contato” in the city of Foz do Iguaçu, the objective of this work is to check how the beliefs of the informants and the speakers of Argentine Spanish are produced. This work is supported theorically by López Morales (1993), Moreno Fernández (1998) and Blanco Canales (2004). The question selected regards the informant positioning about the “best speaker among the languages spoken in the city and in the border region.” We tried to identify the beliefs that guided the informants in their responses and led them to declare that the Argentine Spanish is the best. In addition, the paper also aims to relate this assessment to the responses produced for other languages in order to identify different beliefs from one to another language.
