Abstract

This essay aims to analyze certain aspects of the Guarani people territory occupation and the consequences it brought concerning the religious concepts that were fundamental in the universe of the natives that used to live here. We focused our attention on the transformation of this nation’s religious values, and the consequent adoption of the new social model from the European settlers. Thus, we will show some aspects that evidence how the Jesuit Missions interfered with our spirituality and which were the Jesuits’ intentions in the American lands. We will also show elements of the Guarani culture, which, hardly had the Society of Jesus arrived, started to be considered illegal, to be further replaced with dogmas from the Christianity.
