Abstract

This study brings to light the issue addressed by several authors, questioning the teacher-student relationship and the way sports are practiced in schools. Based on this, the article discusses elements related to sports, such as performance, health, leisure, and education, to then explore the desired role of sports in school physical education. It also examines how the transformations discussed by RAMALHO (2000) have managed to distance themselves from the "sports trend" cited by BRACHT (1989). This work advocates for a distinct approach to sports in schools, separating sports in physical education classes from those practiced at school. This distinction ensures that classes respect students' individuality and focus on education, while sports training fosters the development of students within their limits. The article contrasts this perspective with sports plans and projects that promote the pursuit of high-performance athletes in school physical education.
