Abstract

Return migration has been highlighted in studies of the area because it has become more representative in recent years. Rio Grande do Norte (RN), as a particular state in the Northeastern context due to its positive migration balance, has about 30% of its immigrants as returnees. Thus, in order to understand some processes that are involved in the explanation of return migration for the RN, it was developed an analysis of migration data of 2010 Census, making use of a logistic regression model to assess the impact of social security in return migration. We also analyzed the differences related to the fate of this return was to the semiarid region. Therefore, it was observed that retirement or pension is the variable that best explains the return migration in the logistic model. Confirming for the RN what part of the literature highlights as important factors for return migration.
