Dictatorship and Patriarchy: A look at the character Inês, by Tânia Jamardo Faillace
Keywords:
Tânia Jamardo Faillace, Female resistance, Military dictatorship, Patriarchy.Abstract
In order to analyze the female resistance, a striking feature of the characters that compose the writing of Tânia Jamardo Faillace, this paper intends to investigate the composition of the character Inês, the protagonist of the tale "O 35º Ano de Inês (The 35th Year of Inês)", considering the historical context in which both the character and the writer are inserted. Confronted by the rise of the military dictatorship and facing a society narrowed by a predominantly male discourse, the analysis intends to demonstrate how Inês resists even in a repressive environment, and also presents an observation of how Faillace portrays such subjects as a background in her writings, especially the influences of patriarchy, a theme present throughout the tale's plot. Ambiented in the 1970s, both author and character expose us to female resistance, which transgresses the barriers of oppression and demarcates its place in society. As much as their attitudes have consequences, they take the risk of allowing themselves to be as they are and the right to belong to themselves. They subvert the system to which they belong, breaking the barrier of what was strongly denied to women until then, the right to be in the world as an individual of a civil society. The research has bibliographical bias, with focus on the historical context of the writer, taken here as a significant influence on her writings, as well as research focused on Faillace's personal life.
