When we take a look to the social-historical and cultural conditions of the Brazilian society formation , we can point out that slavery is one of the main dimensions for its constitution and consequently racism is something structuring social and psychological relations. The ways for perpetuating this are varied acts and several kinds of messages and representations targeting racial minorities in order to despise and segregate them. Here we focus on humour discourse, unpacking how it could reinforce a “recreative racism” – as it is conceptualised by Adilson Moreira -, but also could serve to criticise the racist order when it inverts the target of the mockery and makes fun of prejudiced white people. Our considerations are based on “critical politically incorrect humour” and “humour of reverse discourse” notions and we correlated them with a cut of humour made by some black Brazilian comedians.
