This paper aims to investigate the spaces and their relationship with the poetic self in the work Regresso a casa, by the contemporary Portuguese poet José Luís Peixoto. The poet José Luís Peixoto, born in Galveias, 1974, is one prominent author of contemporary Portuguese literature. His fictional and poetic work consists of dozens of anthologies, which are studied in several national and foreign universities. The main themes that permeate Peixoto is poetics are: family relationships, rurality, as well as the relationship between human subjectivity and history. With a strong autobiographical and allegorical character, the poet represents much of Portugal and its spaces. Space is, above all, human and should not be understood as a structural form, nor as a mere element where the narrative takes place, because the subjects attribute to it the most subjective meanings found in the depths of their being and, thus, it is impractical to think of space without relating it, somehow, to a subject. Thus, in this analysis, the topophilic relations of the lyric self that returns not only to his homeland and spaces of old, but also to himself, will be mapped. To provide the necessary theoretical support to carry out the analysis proposed here are used mainly the ideas of: Antonio Candido (2006), Gaston Bachelard (1978), Ozíris Borges Filho (2020), Yi-fu Tuan (1983).
