OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to compare hemodynamic responses with or without the use of an elevation training mask.
METHODS: Fifteen trained men (78.68±6.56kg; 174.73±4.56cm; 23.18±2.04years) performed two training sessions with three exercises, 10-RM loads and 2-minute intervals, in different O2 deprivation conditions (with or without the elevation training mask). Cardiovascular parameters of systolic, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate and double product were observed.
RESULTS: Based on the ANOVA, it can be observed similar significant decreases in systolic and diastolic blood pressure for respiratory conditions, however the duration of post-exercise hypotension for a training session using the ergogenic resource maintained an increased duration for up to 60 minutes for systolic blood pressure ( p<0.0001; d=–1.11) and diastolic (p=0.047; d=–0.82), which did not occur for other respiratory conditions. For heart rate and the double product there were no significant differences between respiratory conditions.
CONCLUSION: Regardless of the use of the elevation training mask, strength training promotes significant decreases in systolic and diastolic blood pressure and increases in heart rate and the double product. Furthermore, a longer duration of post-exercise hypotension caused using this ergogenic resource was observed.
