FROM GEOGRAPHICAL SOUTH TO EPISTEMOLOGICAL SOUTH: REFLECTIONS ON THE POST GRADUATION PROGRAM OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF CARIRI

Abstract

Establishing a dialogue between the Paulo Freire's Dialogic Education and the South Epistemologies this article presents a discussion about university expansion at Ceara State, in northeast Brazil. It is discussed the construction of a Post Graduate Program which focuses Sustainable development at hinterland as a pretext to thematize possible resistance within the emerging paradigm. The methodology used is aligned with the reference of qualitative research, through the experience of Focal Groups and in-depth interview with a semi structured guide. The results found, it was observed that the Freirian thinking attends in identifying untested feasibility as possible points of tension to be experienced in building a University that turns back to the local reality and thus produces valid knowledge. We conclude that the dialogic reading of the knowledge construction that Freire proposes is presented as a guideline to be adopted for an approximation of the utopian horizon of social transformation and the university itself.
