This study aims to understand the importance of therapeutic listening in the clinical practice of Gestalt therapy. This humanistic approach is based on phenomenological and existential philosophies, which aim to make individuals responsible for their personal development process through their lived experiences in the present moment and from their worldliness. In setting therapeutic approach Gestalt listening allows the client to access experiences that have not yet reached a state of awareness. This refers to consciousness, which is revealed in the present through the body, which communicates through emotions, feelings, and speech itself. To answer the proposed objective, the methodology of narrative literature review was used, which focuses on deepening a theme without the obligation of systematizing rigid knowledge. For the selection of bibliographic material, classic books on the Gestalt approach found in personal collections and scientific articles researched on the Pepsic, Scielo, and CAPES platforms were used, based on the descriptors: "Gestalt therapy," "Listening," and "Clinical." Analysis consisted of reading techniques, namely: selective reading, reflective reading, and interpretive reading. From the readings carried out, the following categories were constructed: 1) the importance of therapeutic listening in Gestalt therapy; 2) contributions of therapeutic listening to understanding the client's experience in the here-and-now. It can be concluded, therefore, that listening in Gestalt therapy is not limited to a technical criterion, but constitutes a central methodological procedure that sustains the quality of the bond between client and psychotherapist.
