Da periferia À UNIVERSIDADE: Ações afirmativas para a inclusão de estudantes negros e pobres

No Brasil o jovem pobre, negro e de periferia, encontra muitas barreiras impostas pela condição de vida, que o impossibilita até mesmo de sonhar em ter uma ascensão social pela via do estudo. Muitas vezes estudar é ter que optar em deixar de trabalhar e contribuir para a renda de sua família. Deste cenário alguns conseguem se sobressair quando têm oportunidade. Esta oportunidade é o cerne da mudança de vida e fator determinante para uma emancipação política e social do sujeito. Nessa perspectiva se fazem muito importantes ações afirmativas, que garantem reserva de vagas para ingresso e bolsas auxílio para manutenção do estudante durante o curso. Em 7 de agosto de 2012 o Senado brasileiro aprovou a Lei das Cotas, que reserva 50% das vagas em Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) para estudantes de escolas públicas, combinando também critérios étnicos, raciais e sociais. Porém mesmo antes da aprovação dessa lei, diversas IES praticavam ações afirmativas, como é o caso da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar). Neste trabalho apresentamos a historia e reflexões de uma estudante negra de periferia, que com muito trabalho, dedicação e auxílio de ações afirmativas supera sua dificuldades e se forma no ensino superior.
