Environmental Education in Practice:
Analysis of the Fish Fry Release Project in the Municipality of Nova Santa Rosa/PR, Brazil

Abstract: This article aims to analyze the practical implementation of Environmental Education developed within the educational context in the municipality of Nova Santa Rosa/PR. It focuses on the Fish Fry Release Project, which was named "Joint Action of Environmental Education and Repopulation of Native Fish Species in the Guaçu and Jaguarundi Streams in the Municipality of Nova Santa Rosa". The research adopts a bibliographic and documentary method, of a qualitative and descriptive nature, aimed at analyzing the implementation of Environmental Education (EE) practices in the Municipal Education Network of Nova Santa Rosa. The results demonstrate that the Municipality of Nova Santa Rosa/PR has met the guidelines foreseen in the National Environmental Education Policy (PNEA), and that the Fish Fry Release Project has been very effective, promoting a local culture about the importance of preserving the environment, local rivers, native species, and more sustainable practices such as waste separation and sport fishing, generating awareness among students in the municipal education network. It is hoped that other municipalities belonging to the Guaçu River hydrographic basin will adopt similar projects. In conclusion, Environmental Education is a very important tool for raising environmental awareness and realizing the Fundamental Right to an Ecologically Balanced Environment. Regarding the Fish Fry Release Project in commemoration of River Day, excellent results were demonstrated, being considered an effective Environmental Education project, generating a culture of care for local rivers and the protection of native species.
